TEEN/ADULT/Senior SWIM LESSONS

SWIM BASICS

Learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by increasing your comfort in the water and developing forward water movement.

STROKE MECHANICS

For those who know basic swimming fundamentals and are ready to learn additional water safety skills and build stroke techniques.

WATER FITNESS

Experience the benefits of water resistance to improve cardiovascular ability, strength, balance and flexibility.  Water fitness classes are for individuals of every age, held in both shallow and deep water. All classes are led by our YMCA-certified water fitness instructors. Participants do not need to know how to swim but should be comfortable in the water.

ARTHRITIS AND LOW IMPACT TRAINING

The arthritis and low intensity impact training class is a low intensity movement based class designed to increase the mobility of each joint. The variety of exercises were developed by YMCA of the USA to relieve stiffness and pain from arthritis. This class is also intended for athletes and active adults in need of recovery or light resistance training.

DEEP WATER EXERCISE

Enjoy a non-impact workout that stresses flexibility and endurance in deep water while toning the entire body. Class participants use flotation devices. Participants should be comfortable in the deep end of the pool but do not need to know how to swim.

HYDRO INTERVAL TRAINING

A high-intensity, track-style, deep water workout designed to increase your speed, power, strength, and agility in a low-impact environment. HIT is an excellent cross-training option for those looking to take their fitness to the next level.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants are qualified to join the Chicago Whitewater Association on its beginner river trips in the Spring. All equipment for this class is provided; Club membership costs $15 per year and is required. Club registration must be done before the first day of class at https://cwa.wildapricot.org/join-us  Please note: We provide short whitewater boats for this course. Longer boats do not fit in the pool.

Kayaking Open Pool (new!)

Are you working on your roll? Or do you just need some time in a warm pool with a paddle in your hands? Join us for three Sunday evenings, when you can work independently or get some tips and feedback from Alec and Sharon Bloyd-Peshkin of Have Kayaks, Will Travel. Some equipment is available (boats, paddles and skirts), though sizes are limited. You can bring your own, but only smaller boats (under 10 feet) can fit through the door. Prior paddling experience is strongly recommended. Contact Alec and Sharon at kayak.bp@gmail.com with questions. Please note: We provide short whitewater boats for this course. Longer boats do not fit in the pool.
