Code of Conduct
Any person who supports the purpose may become a member of this corporation in accordance with such provisions as may be established by the Board of Directors, and shall so continue to be a member unless the board or its authorized agent concludes, in it’s sole discretion, that a member has failed to live up to the standards and commitments of being a member of this YMCA. To ensure that every YMCA member has a positive experience, please follow the safety rules posted throughout the building.
- No cell phone use in locker rooms, pool deck, or Fitness areas - for your comfort and protection!
- Please look for and utilize our Cell Friendly designated areas for cell phone calls.
- Respect other’s rights to participate in the same area as you.
- To avoid offending others, please use proper language at all times.
- Individuals falsifying cards, allowing others to use their card or similar behavior will be subject to membership suspension or termination. The locker rooms are divided into adult and youth areas. Please respect these areas.
- Other than the pool area, shoes and shirts must be worn at all times.
- For everyone’s comfort and safety, please dry off in the shower area before entering the locker rooms. This helps eliminate standing water on locker room floors, increasing everyone’s safety and comfort. We ask you for your cooperation.
- Avoid loud, boisterous behavior that may offend or disturb other members or classes.
- Music, without the use of headphones, is not allowed.
- Have fun, but not at the expense of others
- Everyone must carry their own membership card for gate access at all designated areas.
- Proper attire is to be worn at all times while using the YMCA facilities.
- Street shoes and street clothes are not allowed in the gymnasium, racquetball courts, exercise rooms or pool area. Cut-offs and other street clothes are not allowed in the pool, whirlpool and sauna areas
- No shoes on pool deck or shower rooms
- Criminal penalties apply to the possession, use, or sale of drugs and/or weapons. The YMCA will prosecute.
- Please refrain from wearing apparel with questionable imprints.
- Theft or intentional damage to property belonging to the YMCA or its members will result in criminal prosecution.
- Smoking or use of any tobacco product is not permitted on YMCA premises or outside it’s doors. No alcohol permitted on YMCA premises.
- The YMCA is a neutral zone and will not tolerate gang representation.
- Males: please no hats in the building.
- The YMCA assumes no responsibility for personal injuries or loss of property while using our facilities. • It’s recommended that anyone using our facilities make provisions to provide this coverage within their own family insurance program.
Children at the YMCA
Children under 12 years must be closely supervised by a parent/guardian or adult (21+) when in the YMCA, including locker rooms, pool, and gyms, unless in a supervised program
- Children must be 16 years to be in the Free Weight Room. Children must be 8 years to be on the indoor track. Children age 8 to 15 years must have close parent/guardian or adult (21+) supervision when using the indoor track.
- Parent/guardian must remain in building when children under age 12 are dropped off at the “Y-Box” or Kid’s Korner.
- Children must be 12 years to be in the Fitness Center or Spirit-Mind-Body area (upper exercise area). Children 12 to 15 years must schedule an orientation class with a Fitness Professional and their parent/guardian or adult (21+) before using equipment. Then, they must have close parent/guardian or adult supervision when using the Fitness Center or Spirit- Mind-Body area (upper exercise area).
- Parent/guardian or family adult (21+) must accompany all swimmers under 9 years and be in the pool during family/open swim
- Children 6 years and up must use same sex locker rooms. (no exceptions)
- Two changing stalls are now located on the Pool Deck for youth w/ parent changing.
Fitness Center Policies
- Appropriate gym clothes and shoes are required
- Members must carry their membership card at all times
- No food or beverages other than water are allowed in the Center
- Please bring your own towel and wipe off the machines after each use.
Locker, Rentals, Lost & Found
You can either use our full-size daily lockers at no charge, or rent a half-size locker for $60 per year. Members and guests must bring their own locks. Locks are available for purchase at the Welcome Desk. Daily locks left overnight and expired yearly lockers will have locks removed. Contents will be placed in Lost and Found which is located near the Welcome Desk. After 30 days, articles will be donated to a local shelter. For locker rental, please visit the Member Service's desk.
Photography Release
The West Cook YMCA will occasionally assign a photographer to take photographs of our members and participants in various activities for promotional purposes. Some of these photos will be used in YMCA marketing materials such as advertisements, press releases, mailers and brochures. If you do not wish yourself or a family member to be photographed, please step out of the photo or notify the photographer before the photo is taken.
Refunds & Credit Policy
A full refund will be given if the YMCA cancels a class. If you withdraw from a class before it begins, refunds will be given either by check less a $10 processing fee, or 100% by credit voucher to be used within one calendar year. Refunds by check usually take 10-14 days to process. Once the class has begun and less than 50% of the class time has passed. participants that withdraw will be issued a 50% credit voucher (no refunds once classes have begun). After 50% of the class time has passed, no credit or refund will be given.
*Some classes may require the purchase of a West Cook YMCA membership in order to receive the member price.
