We’re meeting a need in our community.

  • Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional deaths for children ages 1-14 years old. (National
    Drowning Prevention Alliance NDPA)

70% of African American, 60% of Hispanic and 40% of caucasian children don’t know how to swim.
    (USA Swimming)
  • African American children between the ages of 5-14 are three times more likely to drown than
Caucasian children. (Center of Disease Control, CDC)

Your investment creates positive change.

  • Contribute as a Monetary Sponsor and directly offset operational costs.
  • Contribute as a Scholarship Provider and not only will you directly offset operational costs, but you’ll also receive Scholarship Annual Passes to give to youth or families who cannot afford passes.

We made a difference we made in 2015.

  • Approximately 4000 individuals visited the Fred Hampton Aquatic Center - a 100% increase over 2014.
  • Everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer due to the fact that there were zero aquatics incidents.
  • The philanthropic community contributed $1875 to the success of the pool, including:
    • Rotary Club of Maywood • AA Rental Center • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority - Glen Ellyn Alumnae • Stacy Saunders & Joe Mitzenmacher • Village of Maywood • Gary Woll • Neighborhood United
Methodist Church • Donna La Sage • A5Group Inc. • Forest Park National Bank • Schulz-Brundage, Inc. • Forest Agency Insurance • Klein, Thorpe, And Jenkins, LTD. • Bradley Wooten

We have a big dream for 2016.

  • Our goal this summer is 5000 guest visits.
  • We want to provide at least 150 children with swim lessons.
  • Statistics show that minority children have a high rate of downing. We want to lower that rate by teaching children proper water safety skills.
  • Studies have shown that physical activity leads to higher achievement in the classroom. We want to support the youth of Maywood and help them reach their full academic potential.
  • Among children between ages 6 to 11, Latino (26.1 percent) and Black (23.8 percent) obesity rates are higher than the White (13.1 percent) rate. These same increased rates are seen among Latino and non-Latino black teenagers ages 12 to 19 (CDC)
  • Studies have also shown that children who spend more time outdoors are less likely to be obese. We want to support a healthier community by giving children the opportunity to spend summer outdoors!

Together, we can ensure kids have a fun and safe summer. Download the sponsor packet here or click here to fill out the fillable packet.
