YOUTH SPORTS

At the Y, we believe all children should have the chance to learn healthy lifestyles, grow in leadership skills, and thrive among their peers. Our Youth Sports program approaches that belief in three ways.

  1. We teach and strengthen the skills of every child for the sports they love to play.
  2. We instill and develop the YMCA character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility through key elements such as teamwork and good sportsmanship.
  3. We ensure that every child enjoys the time they spend in our programming by making friends and having fun.

The West Cook YMCA offers  exciting sports programs. Whether its gaining the confidence that comes with learning a new sport or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork or learning new skills, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole athlete, inside and out. Selecting a sport program to participate can be as simple as selecting one you or your child have enjoyed. However, sometimes it makes sense to think through your/your child’s fitness goals and what you enjoy doing. Sports offer the opportunity to participate individually or as a team, and challenges participants in different ways through endurance, speed, mental toughness, teamwork, strength and coordination.

BIDDY BALLERS (3-5 YEARS)

Shoot and score with Biddy Ball for your child. This program is designed to teach the basketball basics of passing, dribbling, shooting, defense, and teamwork in a fun and entertaining instructional class setting. Sign up and enjoy your future star as they develop their basketball skills while taking their interest and game to the next level.


little kickers (3-8 years)

Little Kickers is a beginner soccer program for ages 3-8. Our instructors will teach your child the basic skills of soccer, including passing, dribbling, and agility all through fun games and supervised play.


YOUNG BALLERS BASKETBALL LEAGUE (6 -11 YEARS)

Our Young Ballers Basketball League is designed to focus on player development through fundamental skill work, sportsmanship and team building concepts every time they take the floor. The league is divided by grades: 1-2, 3-4, and 5-7. Everyone plays (automatic sub rotation). Players receive weekly games played on Saturdays, a one-hour instructor lead practice session every week, either on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

So when deciding where your children are going to play basketball this year, don’t just pay to play… play to learn the game at the YMCA - the birthplace of basketball

“Calling all boys and girls”, ages 6-13 years old: Come and develop sportsmanship, skill work, hard work, team work, FUNdamentals most importantly having fun. The league is divided by division levels. Everyone will play. Players will receive weekly games played on Saturdays, one-hour of practice session once a week. Scholarships are available for those who qualify! Practices are either Tuesdays or Thursdays. All games are on Saturday mornings. Volunteer coaches are needed!

DIVISION LEVELS:
Rookie Division (6-8 yrs.)
Future Stars Division (9-11 yrs.)


Young Ballers skills & drills (6-14 YEARS)

Build on fundamental skills through high intensity challenging drills for intermediate to elite athletes who are ready to take their game to the next level. Skills include game time situations, making moves off the dribble, and finishing at the basket.


Volleyball SKILLS AND DRILLS

A designed program to help youth improve their confidence in volleyball on the court or the beach. This program, for boys and girls, will help youth improve their basic fundamental skills such as serving, setting, and passing by incorporating fun games during practice. Skills and drills is the perfect class for beginning to intermediate level volleyball players.


Sports performance training

Train with certified personal trainers specialized to help athletes improve their game. Our trainers will help you run faster, jump higher, increase power, strength, and endurance.

Our 1-on-1 basketball Training allows for youth to connect with basketball coaches who turn your weaknesses into strengths, improve your fundamental skills, and increase your confidence on the court

Personal training… but for kids! We empower youth to achieve better health through fun games and fitness activities. The emphasis is on FUN, while experiencing all the benefits of a one-on-one workout.
