At the Y, we believe all children should have the chance to learn healthy lifestyles, grow in leadership skills, and thrive among their peers. Our Youth Sports program approaches that belief in three ways. First, we teach and strengthen the skills of every child for the sports they love to play. Second, through key elements such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and including all children, we instill and develop the YMCA character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Third, we ensure every child enjoys the time they spend in our programming and with the friends they gain.
The West Cook Y offers team and individual sport opportunities for children in grade school and high school. Year-round basketball opportunities include Youth Basketball League, Travel Basketball League, High School League, and more. We also have partnered with community organizations to offer clinics and discounts for football and baseball. Our 1-on-1 Sports Training allows for youth to train individually with qualified staff to develop their skills in basketball, soccer, volleyball, or football. These sessions focus on conditioning, fundamentals, and other needs as determined by the coach.

For boys and girls, ages 6-11 years old, our Young Ballers Recreational Basketball League is designed to focus on player development through fundamental skill work, sportsmanship and team building concepts every time they take the floor. The league is divided by ages: 6-7, 8-9, and 10-11. Everyone plays (automatic sub rotation)! Players will receive 6 games total, a one-hour instructor-led practice session every week, an instructor coach, and a reversible jersey.
So when deciding where your children are going to play basketball this year, don’t just pay to play…play to learn the game at the YMCA—the birthplace of basketball!
There will be one practice during the week and games will be on Saturdays.
Youth sports are a fun and engaging way to practice our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Kids can improve skills, make new friends, be active with other kids and learn to love a sport at the Y. Through sport, kids develop important life lessons, including positive competition, fair play, the value of participation over winning, team-building, positive self-image and mutual respect for others in a fun and engaging environment.
FitKids is Personal training… but for kids! We empower youth to achieve better health or fundamental sports skills through fun games and fitness activities. The emphasis is on FUN, while experiencing all the benefits of a one-on-one workout.
