This month is packed with some great opportunities at the Y - and that's important because by now, about 4 in 5 people have given up on achieving their New Year's resolutions to get healthy. So, we're making sure April is filled with reasons to stay on the path to a healthier, happier self. Here are some activities to check out this month.
It's not too early to plan for a summer of fun!
Again in 2017, we'll be home to the best summer camp program ever! Kids are invited to enroll in Camp Magellan and spend part of their summer enjoying friends, sports, swimming, activities, special "boosts" and lots of fun! Be watching for more information and registration opportunities.
Limited Preschool Openings still available
Do you have a child in your home who is not yet in kindergarten? Check out the West Cook Y preschool - a great place to learn, play, build social connections and prepare for attending Kindergarten. Preschool is available for children ages 2 ½ through 5, and is offered in half-day sessions 2, 3 or 5 days a week. To learn more, talk to Elizabeth Lopez, Youth Development Director, at 708-434-0230 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Warm Weather means Water Safety
Warm weather also means water safety! And this summer, we will be rolling out our upgraded swim lesson program focused on water safety and drowning prevention and stroke development while also increasing our parent engagement. We'll be offering lessons at the Fred Hampton Aquatic Center, and well as in our own indoor pool. To find out more about swim lessons or our competitive swim team for youth, get in touch with Kim Polk, Aquatics Director, at email@example.com or Joel Wallace, Swim Team Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Healthy Kids Day and Free OPRF Chamber of Commerce Health Fair, April 23
We are so excited about this year's Healthy Kids Day and Community Health Fair. More than 70 health vendors are coming right here to the West Cook Y. You'll be able to take advantage of free health screenings from the Illinois Department of Health, participate in fitness demos, listen in on hot topics through various speakers, connect with over 70 health providers, and enjoy a family swim in the afternoon. Plus, kids will enjoy four rooms filled with special activities like games, a fitness challenge, arts and crafts, a "Discover STEM" program, AND a visit from WTTW Kid's own Nature Cat! All this - and it's completely free to you. Plan now to come to the Y on Sunday, April 23 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, for lots of fun and great opportunities to discover your personal path to wellness. Plus, stay for our free family swim open to all attendees from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.

We're thrilled to be sponsoring the Volunteer Meet and Match on Wednesday, April 26, at the Oak Park Library. You will be able to talk to more than 40 community partners and explore volunteer opportunities they have available. Our commitment to every member and guest at the West Cook Y is to be your access point to improved health literacy and well-being. I look forward to seeing you at the Y in April!
