Aging is a natural process. We don’t want to be forced to give up things we love because of reduced mobility, chronic disease, constant pain, or fear of falling. Unfortunately, we fear the effects of aging, so we cut back on activities that may cause falls or pain, and that only leads to a greater loss of balance and flexibility, increased pain, and a greater susceptibility to disease. It’s time to take charge of your health with help from the West Cook YMCA!
Our new Healthy Aging program will support you in becoming your best self, no matter your fitness level or background. We know that the path towards better health looks different for everyone and that there is no “one size fits all” approach to aging well. Our staff are committed to meeting you where you are, and the result is developing a specially curated program that champions health equity, fosters social connections, and helps you live healthier as you live longer.

FREE SENIOR FRIDAY
Every Friday at the Y is Free Senior Friday! Any senior age 62+ can access the West Cook YMCA facility and any Complimentary (free) classes. Seniors must pay a drop-in fee for Specialty (pay) classes. Access to the facility includes the Spas/Locker Rooms, Wellness Center (including cardio and weight equipment), gyms, Community Learning Center, and the pool - including Senior Swim. Come by and see how the Y can serve you!
Senior Swim is held every Friday late morning to accommodate all seniors on Free Senior Friday. Please check the current pool schedule on our website or at the Member Engagement Desk to see the most current time slot!
Older Adult Group Exercise Programming
Fit Over Fifty
An exercise program especially for active older adults. Must be able to stand on both feet. Begin with a great cardio workout, followed by strengthening using bands, light weights, balls and more. End with mat work for a complete workout.
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities of daily living. Hand-held weights, exercise balls and elastic tubing with handles are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support.
Relieve stress, increase flexibility, balance and range of motion. Work through seated and standing poses. Chair support offered. Restorative breathing and relaxation exercises stressed.
