Throughout the Y’s history, we have been called upon to provide critical services during challenging or uncertain times. On March 16th, the West Cook YMCA voluntarily suspended all operations except for providing a safe home for our residents. Our board and leadership unanimously decided to dedicate our facility to supporting those who support us the most- our healthcare workers and first responders.
We see no greater expression of our mission than providing childcare for those who are caring for us during this crisis. That is why on Sunday March 15th, our staff and leadership, in collaboration with local hospitals and community leaders, began exploring alternative ways to ensure that those who take care of us are not faced with the inability to report to work because of a lack of childcare. Today and during this public health crisis, our community needs us more than ever.
We know you still have a lot of questions. As do we. All of us at the Y are grateful for the outpouring of support. We are committed to securing the future of the Y, and all its services, as these uncertain times continue. We cannot measure the devasting impact extensive cancellations could have to our sustainability. We know the Y is an extension of your values and we remain honored and committed to serving you and our community as we have done for the past 118 years.
As your Y pivots to support our healthcare providers and first responders through an all-day childcare program, we ask that you stay with us and consider not cancelling your membership. Your membership fees will ensure that we can keep the Y open when we are needed most for our community and be here when the crisis subsides.
All membership fees during the COVID-19 suspension will be considered as a tax-deductible donation and you will receive monthly acknowledgement letters. We understand many of our members are facing financial hardship during this time. If continuing to pay your membership fee is not feasible at this time, please consider the option of placing your membership on hold. With your membership on hold, you will not be charged a monthly fee, and your account will remain active.
We understand that as a member you do not have direct access to the Y or it programs, that is why we will be providing all of our members complimentary access to at-home virtual fitness options.
Please click on the button below to instruct us how you would like to continue your membership and if you would like access to virtual fitness options.
