Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Finance Director, this position is responsible for ensuring all aspects of business office is organized and run with efficiency and accuracy for the West Cook YMCA.

Essential Functions
  1. Monitor accounts receivable and payable, ensuring invoices are coded to correct account numbers.
  2. Preparation of monthly financial statements, month end closing, reconciliation and analysis.
  3. Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  4. Prepare and review all general ledger journal entries including transactions for review.
  5. Keep monthly statistics and actuals of all programs.
  6. Assist in annual budget process and distribute budget guidelines and procedures and provide support and training to all budget managers in their preparation of the annual budget.
  7. Assist with year-end audit.
  8. Provide on-going communication with personnel ensuring accuracy in all accounting functions.
  9. Monthly bank reconciliations and account analysis.
  10. Review balance sheet accounts and Daxko operations transactions.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Director

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or equivalent; MBA, CPA, or CMA may be preferred
  2. Five or more years of experience in accounting and financial management.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required, including budget development, financial reporting, cash management, business taxes, and banking
  4. Knowledge of basic HR functions and experience in this capacity.
  5. Knowledge of computer systems, including experience with DAXKO or related accounting system.
  6. Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
  7. Previous experience with voluntary/nonprofit organizations preferred; YMCA experience and certifications a plus.
  8. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds. 
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
