Volunteers will be staffing what is believed to be the largest Christmas tree sale staged by an Oak Park not-for-profit organization whose proceeds are returned to the community, from Friday, November 28 through Wednesday, December 24.

The sale will be conducted in the alleyway between the YMCA building at 255 South Marion Street and the West Cook YMCA’s North parking lot, Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“This year’s Christmas tree sale will offer a dual benefit for the community,” said Phillip Jiménez, president and CEO.

“First, all proceeds from the Christmas Tree sale will help fund the West Cook YMCA’s Annual Campaign that provides financial scholarships to families and individuals who qualify for membership assistance so they may participate in any of the 100 weekly programs we offer that advances youth development, encourages healthy living and champions social responsibility.  We want to ensure that every family, senior, child or adult in the community has access to these valuable resources.

“During 2014, we distributed more than $ 100,000 in membership scholarships to families and individuals who reside in the 10 west suburban communities we serve,” Jiménez, said.

Second, this season, the West Cook YMCA will waive the Joiner’s fees, which range from $60 for youths age 6 to 17 to $165 for households, for all purchasers of Christmas trees who join the Y in December, 2014 or who register for a 2015 Winter I Session program.

In addition, in an effort to stimulate healthy and productive New Year’s resolutions, we will also waive the Joiner’s fee for all categories of membership during January, 2015,” Jiménez added.  The West Cook YMCA is supporting this new initiative through local newspaper advertising, social media communication and banners and flyers distributed throughout the community.
